Wetland Identification Coordinator - an advanced level position, and is being re-announced with a choice of Madison, Oshkosh or Wisconsin Rapids as job locations. The Wetland Identification Coordinator will play the lead role in developing and implementing the state program which was established in statutes a couple years ago.  A well-qualified candidate will have extensive field experience in conducting wetland delineations, and a thorough understanding of technical practices, scientific principle and procedure relating to wetland identification,

Wetland Scientist

 Environmental consulting firm (30 people), located in Oak Brook, has an opening for a mid-senior level wetland scientist. M.S. in Biology or Environmental Studies required (Natural Resources may be considered pursuant to qualifications). Midwest wetland delineation experience/training required. Additional desired course-work/experience includes some combination of the following: Illinois fish, plant (emphasis on wetland plants), tree identification; macroinvertebrate identification, and water quality issues/evaluation. NEPA (National Environmental Assessment/Environmental Impact Study) experience and field experience a plus. Certified Arborist a plus but not required.

Permitting/Wildlife Environmental Specialist - Chicago, IL - Invenergy LLC, a developer, owner and operator of renewable and natural gas power generation facilities located in downtown Chicago, is currently looking to hire an experienced Permitting/Wildlife Environmental Specialist.

Job Description/Required Qualifications

  • Assist in the development and execution of environmental strategies and studies for permitting, development, construction, and operation of wind projects
  • Review consultant reports with particular attention on use of best available science, clear and accurate presentation of scientific information, quality of analysis, and interpretation of results backed up with current literature, feasible mitigation, and overall presentation. Reports typically include, but are not limited to: habitat evaluations, desktop environmental screenings, threatened/endangered/sensitive species surveys, avian and bat use surveys, raptor nest inventories, and post-construction monitoring studies
  • Assist developers to manage project administrative record for environmental compliance
  • Manage complex environmental processes and oversee the development of compliance documents for Endangered Species Act Section 10 and Section 7, National Environmental Policy Act, and state/county/local permitting
  • Write letters, sections of documents or permit applications, project descriptions, environmental analysis, mitigation measures, conservation strategies, and other documents to support project permitting and development
  • Prepare for, attend, host, and/or lead coordination and consultation meetings with wildlife and other agencies: conduct field trips; prepare and give presentations
  • Participate in regional and national initiatives, symposia, conferences, and industry groups as needed to benefit Invenergy’s projects
  • Travel extensively
Minimum Qualifications
  • Masters degree in science or natural resources or law degree preferred
  • Excellent writing and analytical skills
  • Minimum of 5 years experience with NEPA compliance and/or ESA Section 7 and 10
  • Experience working with state and federal wildlife agencies
  • Experience with wind energy/wildlife issues, familiarity with literature
